Status Service Restored Impacted services Exchange Online Title: Some users may be unable to search in Exchange Online using Outlook on the web or the new Outlook client User impact: Users may be unable to search in Exchange Online using Outlook on the web or the new Outlook client. More info: Affected users may have seen the following error message "We didn't find anything, try a different keyword" when performing searches in Exchange Online. As a workaround, users may have been able to yield results using a filter in their search criteria i.e. 'Inbox' under folder names, in addition to a string query. Final status: After validating with a subset of affected users, we've confirmed that impact is resolved. For affected users that are still experiencing search failures, restarting or refreshing Outlook on the web or the new Outlook client will resolve any lingering search issues. Scope of impact: Impact was specific to some users, who were served through the affected infrastructure, attempting to search in Exchange Online. Start time: Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 2:00 AM UTC End time: Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 8:05 PM UTC Root cause: A recent Exchange Online update introduced a code error, which caused some users to been unable to search in Exchange Online using Outlook on the web or the new Outlook client. Next steps: - We're continuing to analyze and evaluate the affected Exchange Online update that introduced the code error to understand why impact wasn't caught during the update testing and validation phase. This will help to prevent similar impact from occurring in future and to continue our ongoing efforts to improve the resiliency of our service for all users. This is the final update for the event. |

Final status: We've successfully reverted the problematic code change and verified the issue has been remediated through customer confirmation and service health telemetry. Scope of impact: Any user routed through the affected infrastructure attempting to access Outlook on the web may have been impacted. Start time: Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 4:51 PM UTC End time: Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 6:55 PM UTC Preliminary root cause: A recent configuration change intended to improve the use of browser content policies within Outlook on the web, introduced a code regression resulting in impact. Next steps: - We're assessing our service monitoring of this impact scenario to implement improvements for detecting similar events and reduce our time to identify, mitigate, or prevent this type of impact. We'll provide a preliminary Post-Incident Report within two business days and a final Post-Incident Report within five business days. |
