Status Service Restored Impacted services Microsoft Teams Title: Some users may receive a cancellation email when the attendees list is edited for existing town hall meetings User impact: Users may have received a cancellation email when the attendees list was edited for existing town hall meetings More info: To bypass the issue, meeting organizers should have avoided making edits that only change the co-organizers, presenters, or attendees. Making other edits in addition to edits to these categories may have allowed meeting organizers to avoid the impact. The town hall meetings weren’t canceled and users who received this email could still attend the meeting as expected using the previously provided details. Final status: Our deployment to revert the recent update has completed across all impacted infrastructure. After a period of internal service monitoring, we've confirmed that user impact is resolved. Scope of impact: Some users who were added as attendees to Microsoft Teams town halls and had previously accepted the invitation may have been impacted. Start time: Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 5:00 PM UTC End time: Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 6:50 PM UTC Root cause: A service change, meant to improve the editing experience for meeting invites by ensuring that only added or removed attendees receive notifications of the change to their email, was causing impact. Next steps: - We're continuing to analyze and review the affecting service change to better understand why impact wasn’t caught during the testing and validation phase. This is to ensure that similar impact doesn’t occur again and to continue our ongoing efforts to improve the resiliency of our service for all users. This is the final update for the event. |
